Course Summary: The "Not5Star" course, as named by the
group members, was a weekend of very advanced sea kayak
training for accomplished white-water paddlers and
experienced sea kayakers. The focus was on sea kayak
handling in rough conditions, practical navigation,
tidal awareness and rough water safety and rescue. The
weekend coincided with a large swell in the Irish Sea
which made conditions interesting at times. The video
clip above shows the Saturday morning warm-up in North
Stack tidal race.
"Great
weekend wasn't it, I only wish we could've got a video
clip of Claire being washed up that rock race." John
Cameron
"It was
worth it - a very interesting weekend. I've never done
that sort of thing in a sea kayak before. I like the GPS
map (reading that eddy really did make a difference),
and Dave, thank you for providing real life rescue
situations! Hmm, I must buy a tow line." Chris Wheeler
"Thanks
for a great weekend...

"Great
weekend! It was really good to have the chance to 'push
the limits' (OK - exceed them now and again!) in
conditions which, although they weren't mega-big, were
bigger than I normally get the opportunity to
experience with good 'safety cover'." Dave Thomas
"Huge
thanks for a great weekend - I learnt a lot, had a few
memorable moments (!) pushed myself a bit too which was
also a good thing and ate my first kebab since 1988!
Thanks for standing by with towlines and the good
company and sunshine." Claire Cheong-Leen
"Yes, it
was a very enjoyable weekend having ticked off
the two classics in Anglesey. Thanks to Claire for
recommending Aled." Andy Levick
Thanks
to all who attended. |
