First came the
ALAW, the original dynamic concept, our main
design ideas gathered over ten years
realised in one kayak. Then came the ALAW
Bach, a tighter fitting version of the ALAW,
lower cockpit, same knee alignment, same
high performance hull.
Rockpool Kayaks have
more new ideas...
Some of our
ideas have been realised in the ALAW and
ALAW Bach, but not all were appropriate to a
17' wave carving thoroughbred. Sea kayaking
is about getting somewhere, "It's not where
you are, but how
you get there".
The MENAI 18 is a high carrying capacity and
rugged sea kayak for extended expedition
use
by advanced paddlers.
New ideas under development for the MENAI 18:
Pro-hull, retractable skeg or rudder
options
Replaceable plastic keel strips
Un-jam-able skeg! No elastics, no wires,
no springs, no leaks,
no stones, possibly the simplest skeg in
the world
Multi-chine and round hull combination
Integrated lightweight electric pump
option
Optional three piece molded - no bolts,
no leaks, no spanners, instant
take-apart
Integrated trolley mounting
Integrated carrying handles
Optional air-tight large lid hatches
Paddler hydration system
Lap-operated rear deck mounted towing system
Ideas retained from previous designs:
Balanced handling on Pro-hull
Surfing ability, mid section chines
Ergonomic cockpit, adjustable seat +
footrest
Light-weight no-holes deckfittings
Glued in components
Bomb-proof hatches
Edging ability
Custom graphics - as much glitter as we
can throw at it!
